The sweet Margaret Anne Stephens went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 19th. Her family cannot thank the amazing heroes at St. Joseph’s Hospital enough for their excellent and compassionate care during her last earthly days.
Anne was born December 23, 1951 in Lancaster, South Carolina and moved to Savannah where she spent the majority of her years, being in Guyton for many decades.
She became the wonderful mother that she was at an early age, worked hard to obtain her GED after attending Groves High School, attended Armstrong State College and Draughon’s Business College. Her career has spanned many fields, including serving our community as a truck driver at J Mar Trucking, server at Carey Hilliards, and most recently serving our youth as a bus driver at Laidlaw Transit.
She was a member of the Blitchton Baptist Church, where her angelic voice helped praise God, most notably during one of her favorite times of the year – participating in the Christmas Cantata. When not selflessly serving her family and community, she loved and took in many lucky doggies - Anne’s heart was so incredibly loving and knew no bounds.
Surviving are her husband, Rodney Stephens of Guyton GA; sons, Daniel Hutson of Guyton GA; Joseph Mark Hutson of Guyton GA; daughter-in-law, Diane Hutson of Guyton GA; son, Franklin Corder, Jr. of Great Falls SC; daughter, Pamela Bargeron Jones of Marietta GA; and grandson, Jonathan Dylan Jones of Marietta GA.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 22nd, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home (1979 GA-119 S, Guyton, GA 31312). A graveside service will be held on Monday November 23rd at Beaver Dam Cemetery in Ridgeland, South Carolina where she will join her mother in eternal rest.
While we know she has been reunited with her dear mother, Margaret Spilliards, and beloved doggie, Maggie, she will be sorely missed with us here, as she was loved immensely by her family and treasured by her friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
