-Springfield- Mr. Willie Rufus Hammond, Jr., 74, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Effingham Care Center under the care of Compassus Hospice Care.

Mr. Willie was born on August 11, 1946 in Savannah, Georgia and lived in Savannah for much of his life before moving to Springfield. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Army and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Guyton. For many years Willie was a service attendant at Cason’s Amoco. He had a great love for life and all ways enjoyed flirting with the pretty nurses. He also had a love for golfing and fishing. His family meant the world to him, especially his Gator Tail (Noah Sullivan).

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Willie and Evelyn Hammond; sister, Mary Budrawich; and niece and nephew, Paul and Jennifer Budrawich.

Survivors include: his siblings, Beverly Bolen (Vern) of Springfield, Thelma Morgan of Springfield, Luther Hammond (Peggy) of Savannah, and Elizabeth Bridges (Tony) of Rincon; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins

Visitation will be held at Riggs Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 5 – 7pm. Graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 12pm. Social distancing guidelines and CDC guidelines will be in place and the number of people in the building at any time will be limited.
