William Duke Fort

William Duke Fort, 73, died on May 29, 2020 at his home after a long illness, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was born on September 20, 1946 in Guyton, GA and lived in Guyton all of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Effingham County High School and served in the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corp.

He spent his career as a meat cutter in several grocery stores in Effingham County and enjoyed spending his retirement years in his woodworking shop.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Toole Fort, of Guyton, GA; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Eric McCallie, of Guyton; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Crisa Fort of Guyton; and three grandsons, Ethan Chavis, Baylor McCallie, and Cullen McCallie.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on May 31 at Guyton Cemetery.
