William "Bill" Monroe Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Monroe Smith, who departed this world on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on Wednesday, February 27, 1935, in Mt. Vernon, Georgia, Bill's journey through life was one marked by love, laughter, and dedication.

Bill called Baxley, GA, his home, sharing his life with his beloved wife of 11 years, Jeanette Smith. Together, they built a family filled with love and cherished memories. Bill is survived by a large and loving family, including his devoted daughters Cathy (Ronnie) Helton, Kay Herrin, Karen (Jim) Salvatore, and Julie Brown, as well as his sons William M. Jr., Robert (Lia) Pearce, and James (Lisa) Pearce. Bill has Blessings of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Larry Henry and sister Dot Cook. Bill now joins his parents, Henry and Erma Smith, in eternal rest.

A proud American, Bill served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, he found his calling as a truck driver, spending many dedicated years with Glenn Lee Trucking. Bill was known for his jovial spirit and warm-hearted nature. He had a passion for truck driving and a fondness for fishing, often accompanied by his loyal dog, CoCo. Always the jokester, Bill, brought smiles and laughter to all who knew him.

Though he has departed, the love, joy, and humor he shared with all will remain with us forever. He will be missed profoundly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. While our hearts ache for his absence, we take solace in the many beautiful memories he created with friends and family over his long and rewarding life.

Rest in peace, Bill. Your spirit and laughter will echo in our hearts for all time.
