Wilfred “Red” Loy Davis, Sr. passed away peacefully on the 23rd of November 2022 at his home in Guyton, Ga. He was 95 years old. Mr. Davis was born in Egypt, Ga. on July 18, 1927, to Jefferson E. and Sarah Elizabeth Graham Davis. Wilfred was wed to Betty Jean Phillips on December 28, 1952 and remained happily married for over 61 years.
Wilfred was baptized in 1939 at Elam-Egypt Baptist Church. He remained a faithful servant of the Lord and rejoiced in his salvation. He joined the United States Army in 1945 and honorably served for more than 5 years. After his time in the military, Mr. Davis worked most of his adult life for Solomon and Sons in Savannah, Ga., before retiring in August 1992. “Red” was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and old westerns. Mr. Davis enjoyed telling stories, dinner with friends and family, and reading. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #209 for over 50 years. Many people knew of Mr. Davis from seeing him walking his beloved chihuahuas around Guyton. He spent his final years in the company of his faithful canine companion, Chico, who misses him dearly.
Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, and his brothers E.J., George, Alton Davis. He is survived by his sister Hildreth Collum, his three children, Loy Davis (Nell), Sheryll Smalley (Phil), and Jeff Davis (Donna), and his sisters-in-law Carolyn Edwards (Tarver) and Marya Phillips. Mr. Davis had seven grandchildren, three special grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Davis also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at Carlson and Riggs Funeral Home on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 3 – 5pm. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Monday, November 28, 2022, in the chapel of the funeral home with interment to follow in the Guyton Cemetery.
