Russell Truman "Cricket" Davis, 77, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Memorial University Hospital under the care of Compassus Hospice.
He was born in Guyton at Dr. Charles T. Brown's clinic, grew up in Effingham County and lived most of his life in Effingham. There were a few out of town addresses over the years - in Florida, near Augusta GA, and near Baxley GA - but he always came back home.
Truman served stateside in the National Guard during the Vietnam War.
He graduated from Effingham County High School and became a journeyman Ironworker at 19 years old and never looked back. He loved his union brotherhood and his work. He retired from Ironworkers Local 709 in 1995 but he never slowed down. He kept busy with other jobs, church activities and friends. Truman was a faithful member of Pineora Baptist Church and served in many roles throughout the church including, Deacon, van driver for the Awana Club, and was always willing to do anything that needed to be done.
Surviving are his children, Russell Patrick Davis of Savannah, GA, Tracy Davis Hammond (Toby) of Decherd TN; sister, Barbara Griner of Guyton GA; mother of his children, Susan Freeman of Blairsville GA; nieces Beverly Boyles (Johnny) of Guyton, Donna Thayer (Kevin) of Guyton, Debbie Usher (John) of Richmond Hill, Joanie Scarborough (David) of Guyton; nephews, Thad "Buddy" Griner of Guyton, and Terry Griner (Ann) of Guyton GA; and so very many cousins and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home from 10:00am to 11:00am with a celebration of life to follow at 11:00am in the chapel of the funeral home.
