Melissa Ray

Melissa Hammock Ray, 59, of Sylvania, Georgia, died on Friday evening July 17, 2026, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Georgia.

Born on April 16,1967, to the late James Carlton Hammock and the late Billye Orillion Hammock. Melissa was a stay-at-home mom raising her daughter. She enjoyed the beach and basking in the sun. Melissa, after her father died, moved in with her mom and took care of her. She loved cooking for her family and others. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Those who will cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Taylor & Brandon Evans, of Newington, Georgia; her brother and sister-in-law, Vance & Karen Hammock; grandchildren, Peyton and Trenton Evans; and her two nieces, Kailey Kelley and Sydney Hammock.

A graveside service will take place on Tuesday morning, July 21,2026, at 10 o’clock at Greenwich Cemetery, in Savannah. Pastor Rick West will conduct the service

The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home.
