It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Lena Mae Waldhour, a cherished resident of Rincon, Georgia. Born in Guyton, Georgia, on January 16, 1950, Lena’s journey came to a peaceful close on Saturday, October 3, 2026, surrounded by her family and her unwavering faith.
Lena dedicated her life to nurturing others, both in her profession as a daycare provider at Rincon First Baptist Church and through her involvement with Silver Hill Church. For over 60 years, Lena was a cornerstone of the church community, contributing her time and talents in countless ways. After the tragic death of her first husband Kenneth Oliver she devoted herself fully to her two sons, James and Chris. After marrying John Waldhour, her husband of 38 years, she became a homemaker and “mother” to a host of neighborhood kids who affectionally called her “Mama Mae’. Her passions were cross-stitching, crocheting, and cheering for her favorite NASCAR drivers and football teams, but above all, she was devoted to her faith and her church.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Chris Oliver and his wife Emily, daughter-in-law Nancy, and her dear grandchildren: Troy Redmond and his wife Tonya, Keith Redmond and his wife Lisa, Tabitha Redmond, and Kenny Oliver. Her cherished great- grandchildren, Breahna and Adalyn McAllister, and Noella and Jameson Redmond, and niece Kayla Steed carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. Lena was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Lollie Mae Edwards, her son James Oliver, her brother Harris Edwards, and her sister Alice Steed.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Lena’s life at a visitation service on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m., both taking place at the Silver Hill Church in Springfield, Georgia 835 Silver Hill Church Road, Springfield, GA 31329. Interment will follow immediately at the church cemetery, where Lena will find her final rest in the embrace of her beloved community.
In honor of Lena’s memory and her lifelong devotion to her church, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Silver Hill Church for the Silver Hill Social Hall. Silver Hill Social Hall. If you would like to mail in a remembrance or donation to the church please mail it to P.O. Box 126 Clyo, GA 31303.
Lena’s caring spirit and wisdom touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Carlson and Riggs Funeral Home, and we express our gratitude for their assistance during this time.
