Keith Lyman Shafenberg, Sr., 72, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Landmark Hospital in Savannah.
Keith was born on July 15, 1947 in Monmouth, IL to the late Orville and Geraldine Shafenberg. He was a Veteran, serving in the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam era. Following his time in the military, Keith graduated from Troy State University with his bachelor’s degree in education. He put his degree to work by teaching high school Geography and History in Dothan, AL. Once he found his home in Effingham County, he worked as a pest control technician for Yates Astro for the past 18 years.
Mr. Shafenberg loved his family. He had silly nicknames for all his grandchildren that will be cherished forever. In his down time, he enjoyed watching Georgia bulldog football and the Atlanta Braves.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by the love of his life of 35 years, Mrs. Connie Hutchinson McCorkle.
Survivors include: sons, Keith Shafenberg, Jr. of Rincon and Charles McCorkle (Lana) of Richmond Hill; daughters, Donna Dyer (Raymond) of Guyton, Lauren Elizabeth Jankowski (Bruce) of Murrayville, GA, and Melissa McCorkle of Rincon; sisters, Jeanie McCleary (Geoff) of Cape Canaveral, FL and Linda Weaver (Fred) of Jupiter, FL; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren;1 niece; and I great nephew.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
