Joseph Riley “Papa Joe” Simmons, 81, entered into eternal rest on July, 28 2020 at Candler Hospital.

Papa Joe was born on November 29, 1938 in Spartanburg, SC. He spent most of his life in Atlanta, GA before moving to Rincon, GA.   Joe attended the University of West Georgia, where he had a football scholarship. He retired from Citi-Group in 2001.

Joe was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker, GA; where he also married his beautiful bride, Sandra K. Simmons in 1978. Joe loved his wife dearly. They spent 42 years together building a beautiful life with beautiful children. He was an excellent tennis player, holding many high rankings throughout his life. He was a huge sports enthusiast; GA Tech held a special place in his heart. Papa Joe was one of the kindest and most giving people one could meet. He loved driving down to River Street to watch the boats pass by. He loved sitting down and having long conversations about life with his family and friends. Joe was a loving husband, a caring father, and a proud grandfather.

Joe is survived by his lovely wife, Sandra K. Simmons. He is also survived by four children: Stacie Taylor, Amy Capwell, Adrienne Simmons, and David Wade; four grandchildren: Amber(Aaron) Buchanan, Dylan Anderson, Kaylee Pound, and Rilee Taylor; Niece: Kelli (Greg) Warren; Nephews: Matt (Amy) Grant, and Tye Grant. He also has several great nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19, the family will have a Memorial Service at a later date.
