Janice Oglesby Miller passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on November 13, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on January 23, 1945, Janice was a lifelong resident of Effingham County and a proud graduate of the ECHS Class of 1964.
On September 25, 1966, she married the love of her life, James T. Miller. Together they shared 49 beautiful years until his passing in 2015. Their marriage was a true example of partnership, commitment, and unconditional love, a love that others admired and learned from. They laughed together, worked together, prayed together, and built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Janice was a devoted wife and a loving mother, and although she held many roles in her life, her favorite title was “MiMi.” She adored her grandchildren beyond measure. To them, she was not just a grandmother; she was a source of comfort, tenderness, and steady love. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and memories, many of which were shared around her table. Anyone lucky enough to experience her cooking knew she made the best macaroni and cheese and Swiss steak in the county. Her meals were always served with love and without hurry.
She was also known county-wide to many young men as “Momma J.” Her home was always open. She was the kind of woman who offered a warm meal, a listening ear, and a safe place to rest without hesitation and without judgment.
Janice lived her life deeply rooted in her faith. A faithful member of Abundant Life Church, she loved her church family dearly. Her kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit reflected her love for God. To know her was to feel His love through her.
One of the sweetest joys of Janice’s life was her relationship with her twin sister, Jenell. The two shared a bond unlike any other and were best friends since birth. If you saw one, you almost always saw the other. They matched outfits, finished each other’s sentences, and brought double the laughter, double the love, and double the joy to every space they entered.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Miller; her parents, Woodrow W. Oglesby, Sr. and Jennie Mae Helmly Oglesby; her sisters, Mary Kieffer and Lenice Burris; and her brothers, Woodrow W. Oglesby, Jr. (Bubba) and James Langwood Oglesby.
She is survived by her children, Lance Miller (Michelle) and Scott Miller (Samantha); her cherished grandchildren, Bella Kay Tatum, Eliza Beth Miller, Tucker Scott Miller, Tanner Charles Miller, and Tristen Ruth Miller; and her beloved twin sister, Jenell Henley.
Janice will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her gentle heart, her joyful spirit, and the way she loved others with her whole soul. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched.
