James T. McCane III, age 59, died suddenly and unexpectedly on January 22, 2026.
He was born March 20, 1966, in Savannah, GA and resided in Rincon, GA.
Jim served as an Air Traffic Control Specialist and Medical Specialist in the US Army from 1988-1992. He attended Savannah Country Day School and graduated in 1984. After his time in the US Army, he attended North Hampton City Community College, Georgia Southern University and Armstrong Atlantic State University where he studied Nursing and Massage Therapy and received his RN license. He completed his MBA in 2015.
After his time in the US Army, Jim worked as a RN for several years. Jim worked at Baxter Healthcare as a CRRT Account Executive and Hemodialysis Sales Specialist in Houston Texas; Fresnius Medical Care as a Clinical Sales Consultant and at TI Woundcare as a Regional Sales/Clinical Manager in Indianapolis, IN; Spectrum Financial Systems as a Regional Sales Manager, Sleep Number as a Professional Sales Representative and ADT as an Executive Commercial Security Consultant in Savannah, GA. In 2020 Jim and his wife purchased 3 UPS Stores in the Savannah area. It was always Jim’s dream to own his own business and he was up for the challenge of owning three stores at the same time which was no easy feat. His passion for sales and his business savvy made him an integral part of the success of the stores.
Jim is survived by his wife, Tove, his uncle Maury “Buddy”C. Gallaher III, of Thunderbolt, GA; cousins Tracie Tinghitella (James) of Tallahassee, FL; Maury W. Gallaher of Toledo, WA; Cathryn Ramsey (Eddie) of Dutch Island, GA; Marlena Sopira (Bill) of Jacksonville, FL; Sarah Mallett of Thunderbolt, GA; sister-in-law Monica Donaldson (Jack) of Orlando, FL and their children, a niece and nephew and several other cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Dr. James T. McCane, Jr., his brother, Timothy Alan McCane, and his mother Mary Jane McCane.
Jim was a man of great integrity. He was kind, caring and thoughtful. He loved deeply. He was a great listener, a fixer, and a steadfast caregiver. He was generous and the first to ask “How can I help?” He remembered every important date. He celebrated wins and shook off the losses and always reminded others to control what they can control and move on. He was often teased about his RBF and gruff demeanor, but underneath he was a softy. He was the first to cry at a sappy movie and laughed the loudest at his own jokes. He loved his Dawgs, 90s rock, a good cigar with a sip of Basil Hayden, world history, politics and was a great tour guide to visitors to Savannah. Jim was self-proclaimed foodie and a bit of a genius in the kitchen, although he admitted he did not inherit the baking genes from his mother, Mary Jane, he could save a falling merengue and made a fantastic Salmon Wellington. Thanksgiving was his time to shine. Jim had big plans for retirement and was excitedly doing research and planning for his Golden years. His loss is immense and impactful to many. His reunion in heaven with his parents and brother and numerous dogs and cats will no doubt be joyful. His passing was sudden and unexpected, but peaceful and that is comforting to those he left behind.
An employee sent this message after learning of Jim’s passing: “Life is beautiful and filled with many blessings but it’s also short and you never know when yours or someone you love will come to an end. Don’t take for granted the breath and time you get.”
A celebration of Jim’s life will be planned at a later date to be determined.
Feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Jim’s name.
