Pooler- James Francis Henry, 71, passed away January 10,2021 at Candler Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 6, 1949 in New Brunswick, NJ and lived most of his life in Lakewood, New Jersey before moving to Pooler, GA in 2004.
Mr. James was a four-year varsity letterman in wrestling at East Brunswick High School where he graduated in 1967. "Jimmy" as his friends called him, worked as a fish and game warden for the state of New Jersey before a successful career at International Flavors and Fragrances where he would work from 1971-2004. He played a very active role in his kids’ lives, seeing his daughter through cheerleading all the way to her successful nursing career. He coached his son's baseball teams from Little League all the way through college.
Jimmy had a love for baseball and was a coach to many players who looked up to him and shared his passion for the game. Being an athlete all four years in high school, jimmy from time to time would compete at the garden state games, participating in over 40 wrestling tournaments with a second place silver metal being his proudest accomplishment. He still had it after all those years….
He was a Raintree neighborhood legend, his door was open to people from all walks of life, and if you were lucky enough to ever meet him, you had a friend for life. Jimmy was a hardworking family man who was loved by many and someone who was a positive role model in many of the neighborhood kids lives. He will be deeply missed by all.
He is preceded by his parents, Charles Henry and Elizabeth Kane; and brother, Charles “Chucky” Henry.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Andrea Henry of Pooler, GA; brother, Don Henry and wife, Esther of Arlington TX; brother, Fred Henry and wife, Jean of Milwaukee WI; daughter, Michele Simard and husband, Michael of Summerville, SC; son, Kevin Henry (Staci York) of Guyton, GA, grandchildren, Darian Henry (Telly Petty) of Savannah, GA, Robert Godby of Guyton GA, Dakota Godby of Hendersonville, TN, Brendan Simard (Latoya Johnson) of Port Wentworth, GA, Mia Simard (Brooklyn Schmidt)of Summerville, SC, Brooke Simard of Summerville, SC; great granddaughter, Aaliyah Simard of Port Wentworth, GA; and many nieces.
The family will receive friends at Carlson and Riggs Funeral Home 1979 GA-119 South, Guyton, GA 31312 on Saturday, January 16, 2021, from 11am-12pm with a service to follow in the chapel at 12pm.
The family asks that any remembrance in his honor be made through a charitable donation in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
