Hilda (Burkhalter) Mitchell

Hilda Burkhalter Mitchell, 80, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019, at her home under the care of Hospice.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on August 12, 1938, in Glennville, Georgia but lived in Savannah, Georgia for most of her life. She was retired from Candler Hospital and had also taught Kindergarten. Her hobbies included playing Bingo and working in the yard. She especially enjoyed making sure her yard was weed free. Hilda loved baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She was an excellent cook, but she especially enjoyed baking.

Hilda was predeceased by:  her parents, Rudolph and Vernice Burkhalter: brother, Lamont Joseph; and a grandson, Jeffery Mitchell.

Survivors include:  sons, Ricky (Sharon) Mitchell, Garry Mitchell, and Michael Mitchell, all of Savannah; daughter, Pamela Knight of Savannah; sister, Emily Igou; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 21, at Riggs Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow funeral service at the Rincon City Cemetery.
