Harvey Lee “Jackie” Raffield, age 80, passed away on January 14, 2026, at Candler Hospital.
Jackie was born on November 22, 1945, at home in Soperton, Georgia. He spent most of his life living in Savannah, Georgia, where he built a life rooted in family, hard work, and community.
Jackie was married to the love of his life, Lee Anne Raffield, for 35 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took immense pride in his family and never missed an opportunity to brag on them to anyone who would listen.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Anne Raffield; his children and their spouses: Ginger Raffield Johnson (Richard Sr.), George Anthony Raffield (Samantha), Jamie Anthony Raffield, Sr., Angie Lee Raffield, Kellie Lee Raffield, Tyler Lee Raffield (Emilia), and Jackie Ryan Raffield (Tara).
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kearston Shellene Raffield-Knapp, Kainon Chase (KC) Raffield, Jorden Anthony Raffield, Richard Marion Johnson, Jr., Wendi Marie Raffield, Cody Jack Johnson, Alicia Marie Raffield, Jacob Noel Henry, Victoria Burnett, Lacey Raffield, Starlin Raffield-Luman, Tabitha Johnson-Powell, Trinity Mitchell, Damien Mumford, John Henry Raffield, and Brayden Burns. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jamie Anthony Raffield, Jr.
He was further blessed with a large and loving family of great-grandchildren: Abigail Raffield, Isabella Raffield, Audriena Trevino, Emma Trevino, Selah Rae Trevino, Koda Anderson, Cole Johnson, Emma Johnson, Madison “Maddie” Johnson, Jerrad Maddox, Jim Martinez, Jayden Ortiz, Demi Martinez, Kensley Martinez, Khamryn “Kam” Martinez, Aiden Lichtle, Lincoln Lichtle, Isaac Burnett, Eli Burnett, Bentley Powell, Hunter Powell, Paisley Powell, Masin Knapp, Kacion Knapp, and Adalyn Knapp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva Lumley Raffield and John Andrew Raffield; his stepfather, Daniel Wilds; his daughter, Taylor Raffield Singletary; his brother, Daniel “Buddy” Wilds, Jr.; his brother, John C. Raffield; and his grandson, Jamie Anthony Raffield, Jr.
Jackie was a man who wore many hats. He worked in construction for over 40 years and also spent time working in sales and with the railroad. Known for having the “gift of gab,” he was a natural salesman and could strike up a conversation with anyone.
He was deeply involved in his community, serving as president of the Gravetown Lions Club and later as president of the Monkey Jungle Hunting Club for many years. Jackie loved to hunt and fish and cherished time spent outdoors.
One of Jackie’s greatest joys was cooking for others. He frequently prepared large meals for family and friends and was well known for his BBQ and Brunswick stew. He also had a passion for selling seafood and made a name for himself at Raffield’s Fresh Shrimp Wagon in Augusta, Georgia, where he proudly earned the nickname “The Shrimp Man.”
Jackie believed strongly in God, country, and especially his family. He had a unique ability to bring people from all walks of life together and make everyone feel welcome. He was once considered a hometown hero after helping save a couple from drowning.
A service will be held Sunday, January 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home. Jackie’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the meals he shared, the stories he told, and the family he loved so deeply.
