Harriet Sue Brown-Thompson, age 76, passed away on February 16, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with illness. A native of Guyton, Sue was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Mattie Lucille Brown. She was a woman of immense strength who centered her life around her family, her community, and the simple beauties of the Georgia landscape she called home.
A Life of Service
Sue was retired from a career of service to the mental health community. Her professional life was a reflection of her deep empathy; she spent years providing support and a voice for those who needed it most, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched within her community.
Her Beloved Companions & Simple Joys
Sue found great joy in the world around her. She loved to travel especially on cruises. She was a devoted "pet parent" to her cherished companions—Biscuit, Midnight, and Speedy—who were her constant shadows. She also found peace in her garden, where she loved watching the birds and enjoying the sweet harvest of eating from her fig tree. She enjoyed to fish.
In her home, Sue was happiest in the kitchen. She loved cooking for those she held dear and spent many peaceful hours watching her favorite cooking shows. Her cooking was a true expression of her love and hospitality to all who entered her home. She was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, cheering for them on gamedays.
A Daughter’s Devotion
Throughout her prolonged illness, Sue was watched over with tireless love and devotion by her daughter, Lisa Sanderson. Lisa’s unwavering commitment ensured that Sue’s final days were filled with the same comfort, love, and dignity that Sue had provided to so many others throughout her lifetime.
Family & Friends
Sue is survived by her children, Lisa Sanderson and her husband, Charles Sanderson, and her son, Bobby. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer, and her late husband, "Smokie." Sue shared a special bond with Johnny Stanley, whom she cared for in his final years; she was preceded in death by him.
Sue is survived by her sisters, Betty, Mary, and Peggy. In addition to her parents, she now joins her siblings who passed before her: Janie, Billy, Nell, Tommy, and James. Among her many nephews, her nephew Stanley held a special place in her heart as both family and a close friend.
A Lasting Legacy
Sue’s pride was her role as a grandmother. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Condalyn, Holly, and James; her great-grandchildren: Torri, Trina, Trenton, Tatum, Adrian, and Alura; and her great-great-grandchild, Nathan.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, from 1 to 2:30 pm at Carlson and Riggs Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 at Carlson and Riggs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place later in Guyton City Cemetery.
