Edgar Vernon Altman

-Springfield- Mr. Edgar Vernon Altman, 85, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018, at Candler Hospital.
Mr. Vernon was born in Springfield, Georgia on January 18, 1933 to Horace and Lessie Altman. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Navy and National Guard during WWII (Korean Conflict) and he retired as a shipping clerk from Union Camp Corporation. Mr. Altman was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield, a member of the VFW Lodge 209 of Springfield, a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriner's Club.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janie Lou Altman; step-daughter, Christine Michelle Hale; parents, Horace, Sr. and Lessie Altman; brother, Horace "HJ" Altman, Jr.; and sister, Beatrice Altman.
Survivors include: sister, Charlotte O'Neil Scott of Springfield; nieces/caregivers, Holly Winkler (Ken) and Melisa Bragg (David) both of Springfield; step-sons, Joe Rucker of Springfield and Lloyd Brown, Jr. of Rincon; step-daughters, Shelia Barnett (Bruce) of Springfield and Carla Walker of Springfield.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Rachel Smith, for many acts of kindness as Mr. Vernon's caregiver.
Visitation will be held at Riggs Funeral Home on Monday, February 12, 2018, from 6 - 8PM. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of Riggs Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 11AM Interment will be held in the Springfield Annex with Military Honor and Masonic Rites
