Donna Marie Taylor, lovingly known as “Mammie” to her beloved grandchildren, passed away peacefully at home in Guyton, Georgia, surrounded by the love and presence of her devoted family.
Born at home in Bradford, Maine, on January 19, 1960, Donna was the cherished daughter of Kathleen Cahill Cross and Alvin Cross. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Cain Alton Taylor; her nephew, Brent Jason (BJ) Cross; and her brother, Alvin Cross Jr.
Donna is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Scott Alton Taylor; her loving son, Carl Scott Taylor and his wife Michelle O. Taylor; and her four treasured grandchildren: Cain William Taylor, Logan Scott Taylor, Camille Onnalee Taylor, and Lucas Carl Taylor.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law and soul-sister, Deborah Lawrence of Norridgewock, Maine. Though sisters-in-law by title, Donna and Deb shared a rare and beautiful bond—confidantes, best friends, and chosen sisters in every way that truly mattered.
In addition, Donna is survived by her blood siblings, siblings by marriage, several nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of lifelong friends, all of whom were deeply touched by her kindness, loyalty, and unconditional love.
A woman of unwavering faith, Donna lived a life rooted in prayer, love, and selfless devotion. Her guidance, strength, and constant presence made her the heart of her family. She never hesitated to offer help when needed—always showing up, never asking questions, just being there.
Her grandchildren were her universe. Donna took great joy in carting them to school events, baseball and softball practices, and activities—always making sure each child felt uniquely special and deeply loved. She passed down her love for cooking and baking, often preparing individualized meals for family holidays for picky eaters (her Grandbabies), “because it’s only fair,” she’d say with a smile.
Donna was a lifelong learner and a trailblazer in her profession. She attended Husson College in Bangor, Maine, where she studied insurance coding and billing. Her career began at Vascular and Thoracic Associates in Bangor, and her expertise quickly gained recognition. She was later invited to return to Husson College to help teach medical coding and billing courses—an honor she held with great pride.
Professionally, Donna continued to shine. At Willow Run Dental in Auburn, Maine, she served as Office Manager, handling day-to-day operations, managing real estate and rentals for the practice owners, and overseeing ski resort reservations. Much of Donna’s life was spent in Auburn, where she and Scott raised their sons, Carl and Cain. Those years were filled with activity and adventure—her twin boys grew up playing football and baseball, running cross country, and riding motorcycles and snowmobiles. Donna loved to camp and explore the outdoors with her family, always up for a new experience or weekend trip. Her love for these moments created a warm and adventurous upbringing for her children and left behind a legacy of joyful memories.
In 2002, Donna and Scott moved to Palm Coast, Florida, where she worked at Memorial Hospital as an insurance billing and coding specialist and Credentialist until her retirement in 2023. Following retirement, the couple settled in Guyton, Georgia, to be closer to their grandchildren—the highlight of her life.
Donna gave with her whole heart, not just to her family, but to anyone in need—especially children. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Donna’s honor to Toys for Tots or by selecting a name from an Angel Tree during the holidays. Donna delighted in giving gifts to children, whether she knew them or not.
Donna’s love, strength, and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
