Angela “Angie” Leona Stewart Thornton, 68, died peacefully on Thursday morning, January 1, 2026, at Memorial University Medical Center.

Born on September 2, 1957, to the late Dessie Leon Stewart and the late Gwili Purvis Forbes. Angie loved everything to do with her church. She truly enjoyed being a member at Northside Baptist Church in Jesup, Georgia. Angie enjoyed flowers and gardening. She also liked sewing, knitting and crocheting.

Those who will cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Herschel & Hanna Hodges; daughter, Melissa Smithey; brother and sister-in-law, Terry & Ana McShane; sister, Denise Bragg; grandchildren, Alex Smithey, Tyler Smithey, Dillion Smithey, Gavin Smithey, Palmer Smithey and Grant Hodges; and her three nieces, Nikki Danker, Kristi Bragg, and Sherri Blitch.

A funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, January 6, 2026, at Elam Egypt Baptist Church in Guyton, Georgia conducted by pastor Hipps. Burial will follow in Elam Egypt Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Josh Hodges, Troy Davis, Mikey Danker, Kenny Schaffner, Rickie Bragg, and Carey Hodges.
